2 simple tasks to set up your music practice session

I’m going to try something a bit different this week.

After writing last week’s post about practice, I thought I would make a short video (I think its called a VLOG!) on how I managed to sneak in 30 mins of practice into one of my teaching and rehearsal days. I also outline two simple approaches to set up your music practice. These methods sound very formal but they honestly work and they don’t have to be as pedantic as they sound; its common sense.

If you find yourself keen to practice but don’t know what to do, or you end up wasting time noodling or playing the same old tunes then watch this 7 minute video:

I will probably be back to writing next week but please let me know what you think of the video as it’s a bit of an experiment.

You can comment below (just put: this video sucks, or I prefer reading a blog, or even better: I would love you to do a video/blog about…… )

Hi Enjoyed the video and really useful ideas about making practice purposeful and focused. Loved the Fender Rhodes track on the driving sequence. Is that one of yours?

First and foremost I really like the VLog. Its fun to watch and far more inspirational than a written blog (as long as there is a clear message.)

Secondly, it must take a lot of effort on your part to prepare and edit so thanks for taking the time to do it.

So what next? How about one on “How do I learn standards off by heart”

    (see what I did there?)

Thanks Mike. Yep, it took some time but it was fun to make. I’ll see if I can work on a learning standards video.
